I purchased this GD when I remodeled my kitchen this last month. My old one worked well but it was so loud. I really wanted something that wouldn't send the cat into a frenzy every time I used it! this isn't even the quietest model this company makes but it is so much quieter than my old one. I am very pleased with it and my cat doesn't go nuts when I use. My contractor was very impressed with the ease with which it installed, and the noise level, and he said he was going to get one like it when he does his kitchen.Our old disposal (14+ yrs, Probably 20 yrs old) died 6m ago, but we compost so not a big deal. Decided to replace/upgrade when our faucet needed to be replaced. I read so many reviews! Decided to stay in the insinkerator family, but upgrade to a quieter and more powerful model. I could’ve used the old plug, but decided to get a new plug kit as well. Installation was a bit time consuming for a newbie, but not complicated. I left the old mounting ring in place. The hardest part was lifting the new disposal to get it onto the mounting ring. I propped it on a bucket inside the sink so I only had to lift it about two or 3 inches onto the ring. I think another reviewer actually used to jack which is super smart. It is so quiet compared to my old disposal. Loving it so far.This thing is shockingly quiet! It took two of us to install just because of how heavy it is and awkward it was to maneuver under our sink but we managed. We also accidentally put the splash guard in backwards ? Easy fix.But now that it's in, we're delighted at how powerful and quiet it is. As someone who has a mild fear of garbage disposals thanks to all my 90's childhood movies, it's surprising what a difference is made for my anxiety.I had the basic version of the insinkerator (I think it’s called badger 1). It was working fine but saw this on sale, read all the reviews about how quiet it was and decided to buy it. To be honest, I personally do not see the difference in terms of sound, they both are pretty much the same in terms of noise when grinding. I haven’t teste too much in terms of grinding power but on the surface it does look to be better prepared to handle bigger chunks of food and tougher scraps. To be determined.Looked at reviews for different brands/models and this one had the best. Extremely easy to install and it is so quiet! If you're looking for a new disposer, you won't go wrong with this one. Just know that this particular model doesn't come with a power supply, so you'll want to be sure to purchase it separately.I was debating on what type to buy and all the reviews said the InSinkErator was by far the best so I gave it a try. I have absolutely no regrets and I finally have a quiet non-vibrating sink garbage waste disposal that I'm not afraid to use when guests are in the house.Needed a replacement when our InSinkErator Badger 5 died. I wanted a new one anyways since the old one was so old and vibrates too much. After extensive research what it came down was size. Seems most premium models are so wide now a day that it's important to make sure you have enough space. My current Badger 5 is only 7 inches wide. I wanted the biggest and baddest disposer but they just don't fit. This is the smallest of the premium models and fortunately fits right in.Installation is very, very easy. I wold not wast money hiring a plumber. First, taking the old compactor off means twisting off a pvc pipe, 10 seconds. Unplug the power, then using the hex wrench (same one used to clear clog, included) and twisting the old compactor off. 30 seconds. Careful, there is water left in the compactor and pipe. Stinky water really, especially if it's not used recently. In retrospect, I would recommend running clean water through the sink for 30 seconds to wash away any old stale water prior to starting this process. There will be some water that will spill, so have some paper towel really to soak it up. Again, the water is stinky and you don't want a good towel to mop it up with unless you want to throw the towel out afterwards.OK, at this point, you have to decide if you want to keep your old drain/mount or install the new one that comes with the compactor. I kept the top part, the one that goes in from the sink side, and replace the bottom part. I'd say I would recommend removing both the top and bottom part and reinstalling it even if you want to use your old drain. This adds just a few minutes and probably lowers the risks of leaks. Anyways, there are 3 screws that come with the mount, unscrew that almost all the way out. Then there is a snap ring, looks like a huge keychain type ring, that needs to be removed. Piece of cake. Take a small flat head screw driver and just pop it out. The entire drain assembly will now pop out. Take the top part out of the sink and using a moist towel, clean up the old plumber's putty. So far this should take less than 10 minutes.At this point, I'd recommend wiring in the cord to the compactor. I bought a new cord, and the instructions are clear. You don't need anything other than a phillips head screw driver and 10 minutes max.Reassembling the drain is easy. From the top, put a good amount of plumber's putty all around the bottom edge of the drain. Be generous, excess just squeezes out and cleans up with a quick wipe. After position the top drain, have someone hold it down firmly while you work on the bottom part. Put the included gasket on, then look at the triangular piece with 3 screws. It's really the same as the one you took off before. Back the screws out about half way and place it to the back of the drain. Then with help from someone pushing down from the top, that the retainer ring, and, starting from the back, just slowly push it into the edge of the drain, it will expand and snap in as you work your fingers to the front. Then start to tighten the 3 screws. Screw each a bit at a time, until all 3 are finger tight, then tighten with a screwdriver. You'll see that the excess putty has squeezed out some. Just wipe it off.The compactor goes on with a twist and tighten with the same hex wrench. Don't worry about alignment. You can still twist it around easily after mounting it. At this point, unless you are replacing the exact same model, the drain pipes likely won't line up. Just take a picture, bring it to home depot. There's tons of 1.5 inch fittings and just ask for help finding the correct part. This cost me $3. Then afterwards, put the fitting back in. You may have to do some cutting of the pvc pipe to make it fit. But no cement or anything like that is needed. A check hacksaw works fine to cut the pipe. Then run some water, and turn it on to test it. I did all this in 30 minutes, with zero experience.For a year, I've been using this Compact evolution side by side inside identical cabinets.with the Badger 5 It's always been my impression that the Compact Evolution was quieter. It's definitely more powerful. No doubt. So I finally got a sound meter. To my surprise, the noise level are almost identical! I measured 1 ft from the sink hole and 1 ft from the compactor under the sink. Measured 62db and 68db respectively. So there you have it. It's more powerful, but despite the advertisement, no more quieter than a Badger 5.Since our badger finally died, I thought the update to a quieter disposal might be worth the up-cost. I was right! It's not silent, but the insulation seems to move the decibels to a lower pitch when the disposal is on, which is a noticeable difference to my ears.This model cannot be used in the UK, the UK Model is Evolution 100. My Evolution Compact was supplied from the US, with electrical cabling removed and no serial number.I purchased this off amazon.com.au - not realising that I was still buying the american version meant to run at 120V, there was no warnings reminding people this was an american product. Further it does not come as a complete product, there was no power cable or button to hook it up to. So not only have I now had the plumber had to come twice and the electrician, but i'm still waiting on a step down transformer (another$200) so I can get it to work.I really think this needs to be clearly documented in the add that this product is not suitable for use outside the USA and further that it needs to be sold with the power cable and a sink top button! I've never purchased any other appliance without a power cable provided! who knows if it even works well, it'll be another month before we can even try it! Enough power that if I needed some way of disposing bone and flesh, i'd have options. Unfortunately, I got a stone sink big enough to fit a human adult, and the waste king wouldn't fit. This is where this guy comes in. I returned the wasteking I purchased this. It was much more expensive but with an additional attachment I got it to fit. And Oh boy is it silent. My contractor would stop me once a day, to turn on the waste disposer to show me how quiet it was. I get it Paul, it's quiet.If you run water, you can't even tell it's on. No joke, this will be a party trick for years to come! Is it on ? is it off? You can't tell!Es muy buen aparato, de buena calidad, medianamente ruidoso y muy fácil de instalar, el problema con estos aparatos radica en las tuberías. Me parece que no es apto para México pues aquí las tuberías no necesariamente son lo suficientemente gruesas para que los residuos no las tapen. Mi experiencia fué de 2 veces tapadas, yo lo usaba pensando que trituraba todo, no tiene cuchillas, (es un sistema diferente del que dicen las descripciones, giran unos tambores a gran velocidad y los residuos se desbaratan al chocar con las paredes y entre sí, tuvo que venir el plomero a destapar. Por consiguiente lo uso muy poco y para pocos deshechos porque hay muchos que no se pueden desintegrar. Si van a adquirirlo asegúrense de no lidiar con este problema.Cómo último comentario mi hija descartó su uso. Se tapó el drenaje de su casa como en cuatro ocasiones.
