I looked for a covered kitchen trash can that my dog can't get into. Works great, dog cannot get in, tip it over or drag the trash out. It doesn't perfectly keep all the stinky smells in, but what trash can does? I put scented dryer sheets and paper towels on the empty bottom when the bag needs to be replaced. Sometimes it opens if my arm gets too close when reaching over the counter. Otherwise, the motion detector works pretty well, better when the batteries are fresh.My only real complaint is that the plastic grocery bags aren't large enough for this can. I have to buy larger ones.I am loving this trash can so far. It is easy to clean. It detects the movement of my hand so I don’t have to touch the trash can when I have to throw something while I am cooking. About 3 months into having this trash can it stopped working properly. The lid would only partially open and then I would be forced to manually open it each time. I was about to toss it and purchase a new one but when I started researching them I noticed that every touchless trash can had the same issue. Everyone loved them in the beginning but they only lasted about a few months before they stopped working right. I decided to take the lid completely apart and clean every area of the lid with Lysol wipes. Not exactly sure what it did but when I put it back together it started working properly and the lid now opens fully. Not saying that I fully solved the problem but it did help me and saved me from wasting another $50-$100 purchasing a new one. We will see how long it lasts.8/29/2021 - 4th updateStill using this trash can. Looks very much as it did from day one. No dents. Some minor signs of wear but nothing noticeable to someone not looking for it. Operates just as it did from day 1. It is used daily and batteries require replacement about every 18 months. My oldest son loved it so much he bought one for his first home. When it finally gives out, I hope the same item is available for repurchase because I will replace it immediately. Worth every penny and then some.5/6/2018 - 3rd update.It's been 10 months and this thing still looks brand new and works as well as it did the day I got it. It's used multiple times every day and I've replaced the batteries only once. I hope it lasts, at least, another 10 months but I'll be buying again if and when it ever breaks.Updating my review to 5 stars today. It's been 4 and a half months. I've only had to replace the batteries once so far. It is still working perfectly and almost everyone who sees it wants to know where I bought it. I was worried about the exterior getting dents. It's been knocked over a few times and it still looks brand new. Not even a tiny dent or scratch. It's super easy to wipe clean when needed. The lid has been removed countless times to change the trash bag but still fits snuggly like it did on day 1. Really glad I purchased this.Today, I like it ... but I understand most of the negative reviews.The trash can looks sharp. I'm decorating a new home and was torn between certain trash cans. A trash can isn't exactly an item you want showcased in your kitchen and this one definitely stands out ... but I was intrigued by the touch-free feature and it is only $10 more than the last plastic trash can I purchased. I decided to pull the trigger and give it a try ... with low expectations.It came decently packaged but not protected enough to withstand dents/damage had anything terribly heavy been tossed on the box during transit. The trash can is thin and not nearly as sturdy as your typical plastic containers ... but probably sturdy enough if you are careful with it. Some people have complained that their lids did not fit properly. I can see this occurring quite easily. Some buyers have complained about the lid not sealing well enough to keep out odors. I don't toss things in my trash that could stink up my kitchen so this would never be an issue for me. This container is operated by 4 "D" size batteries. I cannot review battery life yet though I will update this in a few months.The trash can opens easily and in a timely manner. We don't have to wave our hand over the sensor. We simply place our hand or the trash directly over the lid and it opens immediately. I do wish it would close sooner. There is 6-7 second delay. The trash can also produces a noise when the lid opens and a louder one upon closing. It's not an offensive sound but noticeable even from the next room.We are all digging the touch-free feature and I like the stainless steel appearance more than I thought I would. So far, it gets 4 stars. I'll update after we've had a chance to put it to good use. I'm curious how long this thing will last and honestly thinking we'll be lucky to have it functioning and without dents in 6 months. But, for now, we like it and I have no regrets in buying it.The most significant discrepancy between the product pictures and the one I received is there is no handle.I purchased this one to replace another automatic garbage can I had for about 6 years (NINESTARS), the new one is about 3 inches shorter yet they both advertise they are 13 gallons ) the other dimensions are within 1/16 of an inch of each other) .WHAT I LIKE: the sensor is not as sensitive as the previous one, and the lid is big.WHAT I DON'T LIKE: the sensor lights don't work exactly as mentioned in the manual, i.e. the manual says a red light is supposed to flash every 3 seconds... it flashes every so often (it raises my concerns whether I received a defective unit). when the sensor is activated the lid opening speed is a bit on the lazy side.It's an OK purchase, if it lasts a few years I wont regret buying it , but if I had to buy it again, I would buy another brand (just one person's opinion).Family loves this product. A bit smaller than I thought but it works amazing and is great quality for priceThe Wife was very Happy with the choice I madeThe can is so nice and large and I love the hands-free options, except that after the first week or two, the sensor quit working every time, and the can had to have the open and close buttons manually pushed.
