This thing is a powerhouse. Very happy with the performance. Sound level is fine...not super loud nor super quiet. I purchased the last one available at the time and got a great deal...though once it arrived I noticed part of the plastic shrouding had a big chunk missing. Thankfully the plastic was just there for cosmetics and was actually broken on the sink side, so not noticeable once installed. I'm sure that's why the one I bought was marked down so much, though listed as new. Would purchase again.Great disposal for everyday use. It was easy to install, but the dishwasher plug is hard to dislodge. I had to pry it out piece by piece with a screwdriver. The plastic around the unit I'd also a bit flimsy when trying to handle the unit. Overall has worked fine since the install.I was actually surprised how easy it was to install this item. The instructions say installation friendly, and that’s very true. I would say though, just make sure to read the instructions, because if you don’t then all of a sudden it’s not installation friendly LOL. The longest part of this entire process was removing the old sink flange, and wiring up the new one. I don’t know why they used a nut instead of a screw. And use needle nose. It’s nearly impossible to get to it without one. Other than that’s it’s great. Has a slightly loud click when you turn it on, but it eats your garbage like a hungry machine. It’s funny, it’s quiet enough, but I was SHOCKED that it got QUIETER when it was chewing up the food. Amazing.I will give a heads up though, when you install the new sink flange it tells you to use the rubber washer in between the sink and the flange. Some sinks that’s ok cause they’re built that way. My 40 year old sink... no. It was raised up so high when water got in there it acted like an elevated sewer drain on a flooded street. Did nothing. I removed the rubber washer and used silicone tape in between the two. Worked well. Just make sure to screw it on tight.Everything about this unit is very very good. Quality, effectiveness, super quiet, easy to install. Highly recommend.Initially this disposal was louder than our original but after a couple of uses it quieted down to the point that it quieter than our original. The price on Amazon was less than other websites and stores we investigated. Our last garbage disposal was at least 15 years old. We started having issues with this on and off a year ago already (only 2 years old at that time) Half the time you hear either a loud grinding noise or it shakes half the kitchen (only randomly). You have to put SOAP down the chute with it just to get it to grind and drain. Our plumbing has been checked, NO clogs, but it is almost impossible to get the water to go down half the time. This is seriously been an awful product. And sadly when it started acting up at 2 years old a year ago the warranty was already no good. The REAL cost is paying a plumber to put in yet another garbage disposal which is the really upsetting part. We not only have to buy a new disposal, but pay a plumber as well. Not happyI purchased and installed this GFC720V disposer in February, 2013, to replace the failed 9-year old 1/3 HP disposer installed by the home builder. I selected it for its power, sound insulation, and extended warranty. I have been very happy with its performance until recently. After grinding some orange peels, pear cores, and cabbage leaf scraps for about 10 seconds, it started making a noise that sounded like it was grinding nuts and bolts. I quickly turned it off and found and removed two pieces of metal inside it. I wondered what these could have been from as I turned the disposer back on to finish grinding the scraps. While the nuts and bolts sound was gone, the whole sink and counter top vibrated severely. It turns out the metal pieces were one of the impellers that broke in two. With only one impeller remaining, the disposer is no longer balanced resulting in the severe vibration. See the photo of the broken impeller. I purchased a GE GFC520V 1/2 HP disposer to replace it, thinking that the lower power unit would be less likely to self-destruct. I found that the GFC520V has stamped steel impellers compared to the brittle cast iron impellers of the GFC720V that broke.Do-it-yourselfers take note! I called GE to get the failed GFC720V replaced within its extended warranty covering defects in materials or workmanship. While the warranty states, "you will be responsible for all installation charges relating to the replacement disposer", what it really means is the only way to get it replaced is to pay for an appliance repair technician service call, even if no "installation" is required. I declined as the minimum price of a service call was more than I was willing to spend.Took only s few minutes to install easy to follow instructions. Very quiet and grinds food waste quickly.Muy mal productoTrabaja muy bien el triturador y silenciosoFácil de instalar, silenciosa y eficienteEs el segundo que compro. El anterior me duró mucho años.Excelente producto
