I liked the book, thought some things were a bit overdone in it. Got an A in the class, though!I got this book for one of my class in University it was recommended by my teacher and I just love it.The Law of the Garbage Truck is one of the best books I've read in years. I'm recommending it to everyone I know.In a clear, concise, and powerful message, David J. Pollay shows us how to live a more peaceful, contented, and positively engaged life. He tells us that there is much in everyday life that we cannot control: especially, other people's bad behavior. Many people are unhappy, stalled and unproductive in their work, and live in a climate of negativity at home. There are unresolved issues in their life, and they tend to take their frustrations out on other people: dumping their garbage, and spreading it all around like a garbage truck, making everybody feel miserable, downhearted, or just plain angry. He shows you how to stop accepting the garbage of others, and also, how to stop dumping on others. This book is based on research which I feel is essential. His philosophy and life's work seem to embody the timeless wisdom of the sages, and he envisions a world in which we can all make a difference starting with our own personal lives. He has written in the timely and easily understood vernacular of today: It flows smoothly with stories we can all relate to. Stories of fun, everyday events, and others about the depth of struggles we may have to face in life.I also found valuable the insightful quizzes included in the book to help you determine how much garbage you dump and how much garbage you accept. There are also action guides after each chapter, and The No Garbage Truck Pledge which I remind myself to take every day. When I feel myself getting into a garbage truck mode, I stop, and say: "I will not spread garbage, and I will not accept garbage. I am not a garbage truck!"This book is a gift that will enrich your life. Tell everyone about it!In today's "I got him before he got me" world David Pollay has crafted the perfect antidote for mean-spiritedness. "The Law of the Garbage Truck" walks the reader through a simple journey on how to take back control of your life. His "No Garbage Trucks Pledge" is a liberating and self-affirming guide to better relationships at home, work, or even with strangers while driving on the freeway. David Pollay, I pledge not to be a Garbage Truck! The Law of the Garbage Truck resonates with us on so many levels! David Pollay's intuitive understanding of the human experience is captured in simple yet profound messages we all can take to heart. Instead of letting things go, David suggests we let things pass us by altogether. That means not even in one ear and out the other. If something is garbage (negative), you allow it to keep going on its merry way. This skips the detox phase that some go through, allowing more time and energy to enjoy all that life has to offer. We so appreciate David's sage advice to embrace the "Gratitude Cycle:" "Focus your attention on the positive and let the negative things you can't control wither from inattention." And as you take the Garbage Truck pledge, you will smile.- Poppy and Geoff Spencer, CPC, Relational Coaches, Speakers, and Authors of 1 Billion Seconds.I loved reading The Law of the Garbage Truck because it helped me to recognize all the people that I was letting dump their "garbage" on me and that it was impacting my attitudes and how I was moving through the world. After reading the book, it empowered me to walk away more quickly and not feel bad about it. But, perhaps the insight I REALLY gained from this book was when I did some of the quizzes and realized that I too was spreading garbage to others. Little things that I didn't realize that could impact others. How easy it is for us to blame others for their negativity and its impact on us and rarely look at ourselves and our contributions. Thank you David Pollay for giving me the gift of this book. Immediately after reading it you will have a heightened awareness of when you are spreading garbage and when others are doing it to you so that you can reverse the cycle and begin to live a happier, more positive life every day!Well, the cliff notes are a sentence; don't let other people dump their garbage on you and visa versa. But, it's a book's worth of that. Plus, the writer got the idea from a cabbie who said this to him (and explained what he meant) so, I had an uneasy feeling. I could picture the writer frantically taking notes them writing the other guy's cool metaphor out. So, this author is making millions and some poor schmuck had the idea. Maybe the writer could have gotten cab person's info and cut him in? I don't know. But, it bothered me.And, everyone should know that toxic relationships (garbage trucks) stink. It may not be easy with some (family, close friend) but they've got to go. That is after you, maybe, try to repair or communicate the issue. Other bad mood people? Not worth the hassle. For the nasty cashier or line-cutter you come across, try smiling at the (in-the-wrong)anger-filled (or oblivious)person and watch how many stop actually change; they react with their own return to the light. I have tried this with wild results. Apologies, conversations, and reasons for the "offensive" behavior. And, it helps. You've changed that person's day, and disengaged any anger hormones of your own from mucking up your day.Provide a lot of ideas how to avoid people passing garbage matters on you.I read this Book on the recommendation of a guy called Joel Osteen.IThanks Joel,Who is Joel Osteen anyway?I've heard about this author from Joel Osteen, the American preacher. The book is incredible. I never realised that people can be like rubbish trucks and try to dump their garbage on to us. We have o guard ourselves from these kind of people. I would really recommend this book.A really good book to read to develop a positive life attitudeGreat bookIf you are in a service-based industry and/or deal with the general public on a day-to-day basis you need to read this book!! There is a big difference between learning how to cope with others' anger and frustration and just not taking it in to begin with. David Pollay's book teaches you how not to take in their garbage. I have also learned to recognize when I, and others, are spreading garbage and how to re-direct our energies to more positive actions. I'll admit it's a work in progress so I do go back to the book when I find I am slipping into old habits. Simply put, this book can change your life.
